Cineuropa:

30 Years, 30 Movies

A visual identity that challenges perception, using typography cuts and provocation as tools to capture attention and spark reflection.

The project’s objective was to create a visual identity for a public event, along with its promotional materials. For this case study, the chosen event was Cineuropa: 30 Years, 30 Films, Part 1 — a European film cycle held at the Matosinhos Municipal Theatre (Cine-Teatro Constantino Nery).

Guided by a quote from Lars von Trier — “If you want to provoke me, you should provoke someone stronger than you; otherwise, you are misusing your power.” — the design concept sought to provoke the viewer both visually and intellectually. This intention materialized through cuts applied to the typography across the poster and related materials. Beyond provocation, the design aims to capture attention — to make the viewer pause, observe, and engage with what unfolds before their eyes.
